ARTHUR KORNBERG MEDICAL RESEARCH CENTER

UNIVERSITY OF ROCHESTER

ROCHESTER, NEW YORK

DeWolff Partnership Architects teamed with Perkins and Will Architects to design these state-of-the-art research laboratories and an Access/Conference Center to bring together the medical and research facilities at the University of Rochester's School of Medicine.  One problem faced by the University is that researchers typically work in small, isolated laboratories that inhibit cooperation between labs.  One of the design highlights of this $57.4 million 290,000 sq. ft. facility completed on schedule in 1999 (and under the $58 million budget) are the open design of the research labs and the widespread use of glass-walled meeting rooms to facilitate and encourage collaborative attempts at sharing information between researchers and laboratory technicians.
